A simple blood test to screen for the Hepatitis C virus.
Description
The Hepatitis C Test is a blood test that screens for this virus.
Hepatitis C is a contagious disease caused by the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). It can range from a short term to a serious long term illness.
Cause:
The virus that causes Hepatitic C is usually spread by the transfer of infected blood from one person to another non-infected person.
Clinical Significance Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is the major cause of hepatitis. Approximately 1% of blood donors are seropositive for anti-HCV. The clinical symptoms of a HCV infection are variable. Exposure to HCV results in a chronic infection in 50 to 80% of cases. The "window" between infection and seroreactivity is highly variable, up to 12 months.
